ECCW: A Pinnacle of Canadian Wrestling

ECCW

ECCW was founded in 2016, once known as Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling has been the home promotion of up and coming talent. Talent that is featured around the world such as New Japan Pro-Wrestling, RevPro, PROGRESS, Shimmer, NXT, and others.

ECCW: Ballroom Braw 6

ECCW fan base can be described as enjoyable, loyal, and energetic. They are quite animated and enthusiastic to see their local athletes perform in the ring.

The promotion began in 1996 and was founded by Michelle Starr with the assistance of Terry Joe Silverspoon. The first champion would be The Bodyguard and then Superfly Jimmy Snuka. Later ECCW would join NWA in 1997. This caused the company to learn and acclimate into a touring schedule, working up to 15 shows a month in British Columbia, regardless of how large or small. The common matches seen during this time were events that included barbed wire, tables, chairs, and among other things. In 2000, ECCW would bring in outside talents such as Christopher Daniels, Sabu, and Tommy Dreamer. Leading up to a working relationship with one of the historical Japanese promotions, IWA Japan. By doing this ECCW was able to interchange talent, such as Freddie Kruger, Jason the Terrible, and Leatherface.

ECCW

Years later around 2010, ECCW would change owners to Scotty Mac, The Natural, and Mary Diaz. The company would be reformed into ECCW Entertainment, Ltd… This would continue till April 2012, with Michael Sweetser and Scotty Mac as “The Administration”.

The name was changed to Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling on January 7, 2012, by Michael Sweetser and Scotty Mac. That same day the new ECCW title was shown. This would end the extreme era of ECCW and they would continue to grow as a promotion. Allowing them to properly cater to their current wrestling fan base and the ability to start training the advancement of new talent for the upcoming generation.
